Away from the e-hustle and bustle

For such a long period, I really enjoyed all the hustle and bustle of social media, particularly Facebook and Instagram. I always felt free to stay away from it whenever I wanted. It was never a problem or a nuisance. However, after years checking my Facebook and Instagram feed on a daily basis I somehow felt bored, tired of so many selfies, mine included. Exhausted and distracted by the way fake reality is often presented online. Suddenly I didn’t feel e-attracted anymore. I am not criticizing the social media itself, but the way most people use it to try to express themselves, in such a fake way. Comparison is inevitable, and I am not talking about comparing my pictures or reality to someone else’s photos. Sadly, I am talking about the huge gap between what people post and what they truly live or believe in. There is an immense distortion.
I do think that social media plays its role in today’s society and promote positive causes, things or feelings too, specially for marketing purposes. The problem is that virtual reality is no longer a reflection of real life; it has been a virtual life very different from what happens indeed. People faking a life, pretending happiness, editing sadness, exposing egos and so on. These are all there alongside many others useless stuff. Some people even believe in what they post about themselves while others believe in what they see and copy it. It is an obnoxious virtual circle.
I missed the news from nice people, the pictures of my friends and family members among other news being constantly updated. Nevertheless, I didn’t miss it enough to return to it, not yet. I am appreciating my time away from social media noise and disturbance. I would say that it was necessary in order to focus on interesting and pleasant activities, not to mention useful ones. I am dealing with the real world more than ever. I am also enjoying my social media detox. I probably will be back someday, but with a different view about it. I guess my approach is going to be different. When it comes to Facebook and Instagram seeing is not necessarily believing. Some thought is required. Balance is essential for digital wellbeing purpose. My inner peace has been the most important feeling so far. Being true to myself is a soft and rewarding way to reconnect with what really matters. Yes, away from the e-hustle and bustle is also a way of life. So far so good!
