Castles in the air

 

A large number of people tend to build all sorts of castles in the air. They do so for a whole bunch of reasons, again and again. People in the past built castles to protect and accommodate a few privileged inside. A large strong building is considered a fortress, for sure. A castle can keep people safe and its purposes serve generations to come. People and real castles used to make sense in the past the same way people and castles in the air are intertwined nowadays. Castles were monumental properties only some could afford and the ones that still survive are peculiar buildings attracting curious visitors. Castles in the air are dreams people pretend to believe is somehow feasible. It is a chance to escape from modern reality. This kind of plan with very little chance of happening is an appealing habit of our time.

In a huge antique castle one can experience the sense of protection and comfort, or loneliness, selfishness and senseless of its exclusive members. How great to be the sole owner of such castle and its land. How fortunate to enjoy spacious building and its opulence from within. So many days and nights, rooms and gardens, feast and fine beverages, lovely ambiance and joyful memories. A pretty decent lifestyle and plenty of time to think, and feel and plan. A perfect life apart from the ordinary worries and nuisances. One can even believe that is not vulnerable!?

On the other hand, castles in the air are a good match for vulnerable people; the ones who dare to imagine and trust in a plan destined to fail. Knowing the chances are not something easy to control or predict with accuracy, such plans are still useful. Living outside the limits of the castles enables one to be closely connected with reality and dream about countless possibilities. One must, therefore, recognise that away from safety and boundaries, it is very likely to be open to a practical approach, even when building castles in the air. There is nothing wrong with castles if people are reasonable enough. Properties reflect the needs, greed, troubles and purposes of a time and its society. Plans expose the ideas, fears, doubts and vision of a mind. Castles were ideal for the past, not anymore!? Castles in the air are suitable for the present!? If so, what for?!
